IOWA CITY, Iowa – It has reached the point that the question should be asked.

Is Jeremiah Smith the best player in Ohio State history?

Think about the legends who’ve worn scarlet and gray, players that can be identified with first names only. Chic. Hopalong. Archie. Eddie. Orlando. Troy.

You can add Jeremiah to that list. Maybe he should be on top of it.

Remember when Ryan Day feigned collapsing in relief when he learned during the 2023 signing day press conference that Smith would indeed come to Ohio State and not flip to Miami? Day knew he had something special.

But no one could have predicted just how special. How can a guy ranked No. 1 in his recruiting class be better than expected? Smith is.

In Saturday’s 31-14 win at Iowa, Smith broke Chris Olave’s OSU career record for touchdown catches and Emeka Egbuka’s record for receptions. Smith surpassed Michael Jenkins’ record for receiving yardage last week against Illinois.
